PRE-ADVENTURE

DC 17 THREE SUCCESSES will guarantee good crowd appreciation and free rounds of drinks from CORPULENT and DOLDRUM. 4 successes will raise status of each member by ONE POINT. 5 successes will get all of the above but GAIN 2 STATUS POINTS each instead of one!!

Summary

Party hired by either Corpulent or Doldrum to remove a menace within THE TARNISH so that their employer can get their hands on a whispered treasure. Both merchants vie for control and support of the party, fighting against the other to keep the upper hand.

Hook

The offer of payment and the near proximity of Kaple’s Ward to where the party live should offer the party enough incentive to investigate. NB: THEY DON’T KNOW THINGS COME FROM KAPLE’S WAREHOUSE UNTIL THEY HAVE TRACKED THE NIGHT-THINGS AND EITHER FOLLOWED THEM OR INVESTIGATED RECORDS IN MOON’S GRACE TEMPLE.

ADVENTURE START.

Money Paid

Corpulent paid 75 GP and offered a further 800 GP for completion of task.
Doldrum paid 100 GP, gave 20 GP and offered 600 GP for completion of task.

Back Story

Gargoyle, Grief, owns the warehouse, influenced by Kapel’s ghost, building ANGEL, but has inadvertently released other chattels that exact revenge on Kapel’s killers (old workforce) – making one attack per night – See Numbers on Map:
1. Hazram Guilt (Corpulent has body)
2. Storla Heink (Buried)
3. Bres Murman (Buried)
4. Bovar Happ (Buried)
5. Someone Dead – not yet reported.
Corpulent and Doldrum both know that Grief is behind the Night Things and both think that he knows of the SECRET TREASURE of Kaple. They wish PCs to destroy Night Things so they (Corpulent and Doldrum) can question the Gargoyle.


Two Offers

Approach from Corpulent and Doldrum. Basic Knowledge of Tarnish. Rumour of Night Things.
Corpulent: body, Speak with Dead, Commune – hidden treasure/night things/gargoyle are all related. BAZAAR: p37 CR5 Devil Bound – Spells (Invis) – Little Beauties!
Snake Form. Wants characters to locate night things and despatch gargoyle. Keep any treasure – 500 GP but wants to see Night Things killed first hand – payment depends on it.
Doldrum: Half Gnome – Spied on Corpulent, Wererat, Hybrid Form, “Weanlings” (Rat Swarm), Invis, Filth fever – SOUKp38 Corpulent untrustworthy, kill gargoyle and night things, 600 GP but wishes to accompany PCs.

Investigate NIGHT THINGS

PCs choose way forward and who to trust (if anyone). Wait for night activity.
Workhouse Chattel CR 3 Investigate to find Source: Either follow or check records in MOON’s GRACE TEMPLE (Sarastra, Queen of Night and Magic) – Acolyte Jamie Redknapp during day/ Mistress Alice Cooper at night: acess to records given freely.

Investigate WAREHOUSE

Enter Warehouse: Crumbled down place with no windows. Tower in front. Not joined. No doors or windows. All barred up. Entrance is padlocked with Rusty locks and barred with old rotting planks.

Chains operating: Trace outline of hook conveyor along wooden boards below level. Check for rotting. See underground rivers. Be aware of three levels. Move through to Flensing Machines, NB: Chattels and Machines animated by Ghost of Kaple. Mangled Remains of Kaple in Flensing Machine, Gargoyle in tower with Chain Maw, Animated ANGEL OF RUST AND CORROSION possessed by Kaple, Corpulent and Doldrum attack, Roof of tower – Guarded by IRON COBRA, find disguised BLACK BIRD.

Corpulent and Doldrum

Corpulent and Doldrum can be friend or enemy to the party up until the meeting with GRIEF the GARGOYLE. At this time, if the party has not already fought them, either one or both will wait for them to be weakened and then attack after the PENDULATING CHAIN, hoping to still get information from GRIEF about Kaple’s treasure.
