Letter from Truman Click

Dearest Arcael

The Canton War between Templeforge and Vursalis is now over with Templeforge the victor showing great mercy on the Vursalians by the mere imposition of a monthly Food and Supplies tribute, as well as the enforced freedom of 100 human and 200 kobold slaves. Eleven months I served Rava as a healer in the bloody battles in those stark mountainous lands. Much horror have I seen, yet also much hope and even gentleness, if one can believe such of thing of Canton Dwarves.

I took my leave of the Dwarfking not a few weeks ago and have been back in Zobeck now for a month. On visiting 10 Wheatsheaf Lane, I have found much in need of repair. Although Landlord Optimus Primeval guards the property and one of his servants gives the place a monthly clean, this underling does not have the skills and dedication of Spikey Jonze, so I have taken up residence at the house and have begun some painting and redecorating, as well as some furniture restoration, vital deep cleaning, and a general upgrade of locks and doors. I can report that otherwise all is well in the house.

I haven’t had much opportunity in the last few month to play the flute and so have started practicing again at least once a day, but I do admit to hearing a certain emptiness without your sweet vocal chords to harmonise with, and so I am wishful and hopeful of your return at some time in the future. Tad Familiar seems to think you will return to Zobeck some day, but until you do, know that I will keep the place in good shape.

I have been able to visit the Arcane Collegium but once and can report to you that Lyla is well and is the pride and joy of the College. I shared a lunch with her and she seems very happy with her studies under Master Tranmus.

Elsewhere in the city, all is as it once was. I was saddened to hear that Iron Wall was damaged in such a way as could not be repaired. I miss that rasping monotone of his and pray that his spirit lives on in some hallowed place on the flip side of the world. If you are in any way able to write, please do so and tell me your news. I trust you have found a new audience for that wonderful voice and that you still have a good group to support you.

Yours ever,
Truman Click, Servant of Rava

Letter from The Black Bear of Effildawnan

Dear Arcael
Just as every coin has two differing sides, so too has my heart. One side is joyous, filled with music and the love of nature, extolling the beauty of the carnyx at its most eloquent resonance. But the other reverberates with the cacophony of Divine shame and retribution.

I feel I can no longer wear this badge of shame in public and so I withdraw from life’s concert and from the quest for mysteria. I wish to thank you for the opportunity of discovering new lands and new chords and wish you and The Oooze all the best in the future, but alas, it can no longer be with me.

When you read this letter, I shall be long gone. Do not try to find me, for I have taken steps to hide my way as I return to the nature that I love. It may be that we yet meet again but for now I bid you all farewell with love and great admiration.

Yours sincerely,
The Black Bear of Effildawnan

Letter from Alexei Splitleaf of Allain

Dearest Arcael, Singer, Sorcerer and Orator of Zobeck,

I trust you and your group have found yourselves well and are being suitably cared for by my esteemed Southern colleague, the Honourable Ramon Marakesh.

Lyla sends her love. I have taken to involving her in matters of trade as part of her education, and with the permission of Master Tranmus, have arranged that she attend market with me once per month. She really is a most able scholar and a delight to be around.

There is a matter that I did not wish to speak of among the others, particularly the Southerner, and that is an item of Mysteria that was brought to my attention, unearthed from the very deepest vaults of one of the libraries in Allain.

You will have heard of the Great Library-Temple of Thoth-Hermes in Siwal, in fact it would surprise me if you have not already visited the place yourself. What you may not know is that there was once an ancient Library of Thoth purportedly located near to Siwal but lost in the Sarklan Desert many years ago. It is information regarding this place that has come to my attention.

We are still deciphering the ancient hieroglyphics and the warding magic is very powerful but I hope soon to know the very location of this place and will find a way to forward this information to you when I do. I would pay handsomely for any inside information regarding this place and especially for any unique and hitherto unknown magical scrolls that you may find in the place. Originals will be preferred but if you find that is not possible, then copies will suffice.

Be certain not to mention the contents of this letter to Ramon Marakesh. He is an honourable man and deserved of your trust but I have already paid too handsome a sum for the information I have to throw it all away to a rival. Instead, if you must discuss such MYSTERIA, I will put you in touch with Emir Beg Khan, the head of the royal Qamari House in Siwal. He himself is an able arcanist and a person in Siwal it would do you great service to know.

With regard to payment for this Quest of Mysteria I offer 10,000 GP to THE OOOZE fund, as well as an amount for each unique and original scroll found in the ancient library – 10,000 GP for an original and 5,000 GP for each copy. You are, of course, welcome to keep copies for yourself.

Best of luck in all of your ventures in the desert,
Yours most sincerely,
Alexei Splitleaf of Allain

Letter from Nosmo King

Honoured Arcael

It is with great pleasure that I write to invite you formally to the splendid annual gathering of the EXILES OF ALLAIN to be held in the REFECTORY DINING HALL of the Arcane Collegium on 25 January. As is the custom, you are welcome to bring a significant other and my lord Tranmus the Tall hopes that he can make acquaintance of the delectable Pai.

This year, in honour of the fame you have brought to the Arcane Collegium through the work of SCHMIDT HAPPENS and ARCAEL AND THE OOZE, and due to the induction of the Honoured Lyla to the college, it has been decided by Arcane Collegium Guildmaster Orlando that your honour will extend to the invitation of Baron and Baroness Tigo Rennaus to the dinner. This has already been arranged and your parents shall arrive by Dwarven airship two days before the event.

You will be pleased to know that the Royal Geomancer, Simez Rothgazzi will also be in attendance and it is hoped that he will say a few words and bring tidings from the great city of Barsella.

As you know, the Annual Meeting of THE EXILES is always a highlight in the calendar of private dinners held within the confines of the Collegium and we all look forward to a most magnificent feast.

Yours most sincerely,
Nosmo King, Collegium Scribe and Personal Assistant to Tranmus the Tall.

Letter from Alexei Splitleaf of Allain

Dear Arcael, Singer and Sorcerer

You may not have heard of me, but I most certainly have heard of you; particularly your exploits as an erstwhile lead vocalist and adventurer in the musical entity that is Schmidt Happens. For the last few months I have taken a keen interest in the progress of this group and now, hearing of your departure, I also hear of your intentions to begin another such group.

I applaud both your decision and your bravery and would be prepared to offer you my services as sponsor if you will agree to the continuation of the collection of Mysteria on my behalf. In return, I will agree to continue ALL payments of the tutelage of both yourself and Lyla at the Arcane Collegium, and it may be that I may be of help in other ways.

Financially, I cannot be of direct assistance right now, but I DO have a little quest for your group and will be able to offer your group a bag of holding, a Raise Dead scroll and two Restoration scrolls for your trouble. I hope we can agree to work together.

In the meantime, let me know when your new group has formed and rehearsed, and I will arrange a concert for you at one of Zobeck’s famous taverns.

You can communicate with me through my Able Servant, Tad Familiar, who is based in the College District. Ask at THE BOOK FETISH for details.

Yours most sincerely,
Alexei Splitleaf of Allain
